A floating maple framed version of this artwork in which the artist explores a call and response aspect of dating via personal ads at the end of the 20th century.

While living in Chicago during the summer of 1999, artist James Leonard placed three different personal ads in the Chicago Reader. These ads simultaneously revealed quirks of his desires, while cloaking other aspects of his personality in enigma.

The hand-typed draft advertisements with copy corrections were reproduced as archival silk screen prints. The advertisements as they first appeared in the paper were reproduced via intaglio. These are displayed alongside a CD featuring phone responses to the ads. Respondents’ privacy was respected through voice alteration and muted identifying details. Viewers are permitted to listen to these audio responses while wearing isolation headphones.
