Delaware

2002
Ivory soap, wood, glass, metal, and one-dollar bill
50" x 28" diameter

This work directly quotes Emanuel Leutze's 1851 painting, Washington Crossing the Delaware. A miniature soap carving at the center of the piece depicts Washington and his soldiers.

This three-dimensional vignette is nested inside an origami dollar bill boat, encased in glass; this glass is set into a three legged walnut display table. This table rises chest high to a standing adult, encouraging close inspection.
