No Fishing Sign no. 30

2011
Cardboard, paint, ink
14" x 16"

The cardboard ground for this No Fishing Sign has been torn from a produce carton, giving it jagged edges. Holes in the material, originally used for a handhold and breathing, become part of the composition. Part of the cardboard surface has been ripped away, revealing corrugation underneath. Thick horizontal strokes of yellow, ochre, black, and white comprise the painting. The words “NO FISHING” are written in glossy black ink atop white paint.
