Glass vessel, biology and genetics textbooks, peach, naturally occurring culture of fruit flies
42" x 18" x 14"

This temporary arrangement of books balances atop a glass vessel on the floor. At the start of the exhibition, a fresh peach is placed in the bottom of the glass vessel.

The textbooks seal the vessel. Their subject matter ranges from microbiology and genetics to social criticism of genetics, from drosophila lab protocols to Charles Darwin's Origin of the Species.

The peach is then permitted to ferment and decay over the course of the exhibition, inevitably releasing a population of fruit flies into the vessel.
