Wooden oar, plasma burned cavity

The paddle blade of this Untitled Oar was burned through by the heat of a plasma torch. Water was applied strategically throughout the process to isolate and contain the damage. The result is a scaly, charcoal surface that appears to have been melted as much as burned.

Produced as an artist-in-residence at Sculpture Space in Utica, NY with the assistance of fellow AIR, Michael Benevenia.
