No Fishing Sign no. 130

2011
Cardboard, paint, charcoal, ink
16" x 17"

In this No Fishing Sign, warm tones stack below a broad band of green-ish sienna. A white band of paint at the base of the composition reveals the cardboard’s corrugated texture. The words “NO RESERVE” are scratched into the white twice, once in red ballpoint pen and a second time in black charcoal. A contour of mint pastel on the left hints at a cliff motif that recurs in several of these paintings.
